Fäden der ErinnerungSofia ErlikhmanMasterarbeit, 2025

This Master's thesis explores the profound connection between symbols and linguistic elements within Ukrainian culture, materializing this relationship in an innovative art installation. Drawing from the rich tradition of Ukrainian embroidery (Wyshyvanka), the work visually encodes a quote on the inseparability of tradition, culture, and nation. The installation employs a minimalist aesthetic to highlight the fragile beauty of Ukrainian heritage. Simultaneously, its message is powerfully accentuated by the integration of markers reflecting contemporary uncertainty—such as live air raid alerts from Ukraine—thereby making the acute threat to this heritage viscerally tangible. The project aims to celebrate cultural resilience, raise awareness of the urgent need for preservation, and actively engage the audience in a dialogue about cultural identity.
